I’ve wanted to read this book for ages and even started it once but found it too “sciency.” Recently, a conversation between two coaches reignited my curiosity, so I gave it another shot. I’m glad I did! Dr. Bruce Lipton, a cell biologist and spiritual scientist, argues that our beliefs, thoughts, and consciousness shape our lives. To change our lives, we must re-examine our beliefs. He explains this through the intersection between quantum theory, physics, biology, psychology, and spirituality. This book has empowered me to rediscover myself daily and break free from past conditioning.
Here are 3 key takeaways that I derived:
1. Epigenetics Trump Genes – Dr. Lipton reveals that epigenetics, which literally means above genes, shows that our DNA blueprints aren’t set in stone at birth. Epigenetic research reveals that our environment and our perception of the environment are what control our genetic activity.
This means we are not a victims of our genes; we have the power to use our free will to design our destiny.
2. Change Your Life by Changing Your Mind – The key message is we become what we think. Working on our fundamental beliefs can change our thoughts. We can choose to listen to our disempowering thoughts or we can substitute them intentionally with enabling and empowering ones.
As a coach, this message profoundly impacts how I refine my thoughts and help my coachees do the same.
3. Subconscious matters – Subconscious mind which is a recording of all our past programming and inherited from the significant people/events of our life (including early life) controls 95% of our daily actions and behaviours. 60% of these unconscious programs are disempowering and limiting beliefs. And here’s the rub – our conscious mind can’t change our subconscious mind. The solution is to integrate the conscious and subconscious mind by working on reprogramming our subconscious.
