I believe that as you age, you move towards self-realization – you want to be aware of who you are, what you are and how the world perceives you. The Hogan report, in my opinion, captures this perception clearly; and the interplay of behaviours that we display – is what you need to unravel to understand the ‘true’ you. And my personal Hogan journey is a testament to how essential this understanding is, in order to realize your true potential.
I was a successful Engineering leader working at Microsoft, when I stepped out to follow my passion in coaching. It was a bright sunny day when I cut my umbilical cord with the corporate world and became a solopreneur.
What helped me? Predominantly, I would say, my Learning Approach. As a child, I was labelled a bookworm – as I would read anything I could lay my hands on. I was always curious and would not hesitate to ask questions. In my professional life at Microsoft, I would not hesitate to foray into newer territories. My high Learning Approach and Inquisitive certainly helped me transition into a successful Professional Coach.
My Ambition has always been high. I am high-energy and very competitive – and during my innings in the corporate world, this helped me take up challenges and tough timelines. In my second career innings as a solopreneur, Altruistic came into play along with Ambition. I want to make a difference to people from all walks of life in my ecosystem.
My high achievement focus helped me to reach out to people in my network to help them on their journey to success. My High Interpersonal Sensitivity often eases the path. My high value of Commerce helps me monetize the business. My lower Prudence helps deal with ambiguity – certainly was a key scale during the pandemic.
Looking back at my journey, I feel fulfilled at having followed my passion. Enlightening (sometimes bordering on ‘unnerving’!) – that is how I feel about the self-awareness I gained on this Hogan fueled journey. The power to unlock true potential, lies within – you just need to find the key! Live your passion and realize your potential is my mantra for a fulfilling and happy life.
